Bravely Default Review (ITF Gaming)

William Mabin from ITF Gaming writes: JRPGs or Japanese Role Playing Games have existed since the mid 1980s. Typically they hinder on the same type of fantastical culture and scantily-clad girls found in Anime. The Final Fantasy series once made a giant splash in the West, but the inconsistency of English releases were always an indication that some things are lost in translation. Ninja Gaiden creator Tomonobu has himself said that, The (video game) industry in Japan is a modern form of Sakoko. This was a reference to the style of the ancient Japanese government who shut its doors to other cultures. So how well does a modern JRPG like Silicon Studio and Nintendos Bravely Default translate and how good is it really? Lets have a closer look.

| Review: YAIBA: Ninja Gaiden Z (New Gamer Nation)

The beauty of the Ninja Gaiden series has always been a punishing, memorization-based, highly rewarding system of combat. Players often pulled their hair out, smashed a few controllers and cursed the gods that be, only to get back in and teach that boss a thing or two. This risk and reward system may have excluded some from sticking with the series, but also battle-hardened its fan base and made them even bigger fans of the series. Fast-forward to today, and the series released a spin-off featuring Yaiba, the cyborg-ninja. While this spin-off maintains the hack-and-slash action youve grown accustom to, there are a lot of changes, and even a departure from what made the series great in the first place, which some fans may find difficult to accept.

Step into a living comic book in this new take on the Ninja Gaiden series. Brandishing his ninja sword and the mecha weapons in his cyber arm, Yaiba slaughters zombies with brutal, over-the-top abandon. Will you slice enemies to pieces, crush them with Yaiba's cyborg arm or just rip off a zombies arms to use as nunchucks?

Slicing zombies with a ninja is supposed to be very fun, but Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z somehow fails completely at that, as explained here.
